What Is a Floor Pallet? How to Choose One for Your Warehouse

A floor pallet (also called a legless pallet or floor mat pallet) is a thin pallet laid directly on the floor to keep goods off the ground, reduce moisture from the floor and keep the warehouse tidy. Unlike legged pallets, it has no opening for forklift forks, so it suits goods that stay in one place.

What is a floor pallet?

It is a pallet without legs whose underside sits almost flat on the floor. Goods are stacked on the pallet instead of directly on concrete, so packaging does not absorb moisture and the floor is easier to clean. Minh Quân Plastic's plastic floor pallets measure 1000 x 600 x 35 mm; the orange solid-deck version is 1000 x 500 x 50 mm.

Floor pallet vs legged pallet

  • Height: a floor pallet is about 35–50 mm high; legged pallets are usually 100–150 mm.

  • Forklift: forks cannot enter a floor pallet; a legged pallet takes a hand pallet truck or forklift.

  • Use: floor pallets are for static storage; legged pallets are for moving the whole load.

If goods must be moved with a hand pallet truck, see the legged perforated plastic pallet 1000 x 600 x 100 mm instead.

Perforated or solid deck?

  • Perforated deck: open holes let water drain and air reach the bottom of the load. Suits goods that need ventilation or floors where water may pool.

  • Solid deck: a closed surface. Suits sacks of powder, cartons and small items that could fall into or catch on holes.

Where are floor pallets used?

  • Dry goods warehouses: sacks of rice, flour, fertilizer, animal feed.

  • Finished goods stored in cartons.

  • Small warehouses, shops and temporary storage areas in factories.

  • Concrete floors that absorb moisture, where goods must be kept off the ground.

How to choose floor pallets for your warehouse

  • Count the pallets: a 1000 x 600 mm pallet covers 0.6 m² and the orange 1000 x 500 mm solid-deck pallet covers 0.5 m². Divide the storage area by the area of one pallet to get the number of pallets, leaving aisles out.

  • Choose the deck: perforated for goods that need ventilation, solid for powder sacks, cartons and small items.

  • Choose the plastic: recycled plastic is usually enough for static storage in a dry warehouse; for food or long-term use, ask about virgin plastic.

  • Need a forklift: choose a legged pallet instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can a floor pallet be used with a forklift?

No. A floor pallet has no opening for forks. If you need to lift loads with a hand pallet truck, choose a legged pallet.

How much load can a floor pallet carry?

According to the published specifications, the perforated model has a static load of about 4,400–8,810 lbs (2,000–4,000 kg) and the solid-deck model 11,020 lbs (5,000 kg). These figures apply when goods rest still and are spread evenly.
